Description

A sepia toned print attached to light beige matboard. Image of a group of 10 small boys in uniform standing in a line on a dirt field with a small cannon. Large stone factory (?) building in background. Boy at right is larger & older? than the others; second in line is holding an American flag & appears to have a rope tied around his waist; all the other boys appear to be holding onto that rope; other end of rope tied to cannon handle. Written on back in faded ink: July 4, 1891. 1. Kleber Hadsell 2. James Bennett 3. Roscoe Donnell 4. Walter B. Lane 5. Roy Ridford 6. Tudy Fort 7. Walten[sic] France 8. Jack Nagle[sic] (this may be Jack Naugle as listed on attached) 9. Claude Friend 10. Willie Irving The Rawlins Kids Cadets This hat band was on Walten[sic] cap. Mrs. John Friend gave all the boys a cap. cannon made in Union Pacific Shops. Written in blue ink: This was a 4th of July parade. Tiny white sticker on back has U.P. Railroad written pencil. Written in very faded script: Rawlins Carbon Co. Wyo. Another line is unreadable. Poor condition. Image is highly soiled front & back with grime & unknown residue. Heavily worn with abraded edges & corners. Surface has abrasion , scrapes, scratches, dark smudges & more.
