Post card photo of Charles a cousin to Madge Edwards Daley, June 22, 1918.
Update 2008: Black and white postcard with print with a photo of a man in military uniform. He has medium dark hair, left side part with high front rise. He has a trimmed mustache which slightly turns up on ends. His uniform has high neck with metal insignias on each side at edges. Uniform has two breast pocket with small buttons on flaps. Two chevron stripes on each arm at shoulder. A black leather strap goes across his left chest at an angle through shoulder.
Written on back in black ink: To cousin Madge from Cousin Charles with love to all the family. June 22, 1918. A letter follows in a few days.
Stamped on center back top in black ink: Post Card. Left back side top: Correspondence. Right back side top: Address only.
Fair condition. Soiled and worn on all edges, print front and back with smudges. Emulsion is worn away on corners. Print surface has fine cracks in emulsion from top to bottom, clearly seen on surface with magnifier. Entire surface has a rough texture appearance because of this cracking.
There is a 3 1/2 x 5 reprint which is darker in color than original, splotchy and shadowy.
Update 2015: Picture was run on facebook 11/3/2015. Comments from Marjorie Daley are that the picture may be "a Charles Franklin Pettit born 1886 in Canada who may be this gentleman. According to my research (and I would be grateful for any corrections!), he is wearing a British service dress with the collar modified to look more "Canadian." The box pleated pockets were worn earlier in the war, later modified to plain pockets. The two stripes make him a corporal. I am terrible at telling ages of these guys, but he would be about 30 in the photo - and I guess he could be. The Sam Browne belt appears to be on the wrong side, so could the plate have been reversed? Also, apparently, if he were left handed, he wold wear it on the left."Collection
