Minutes of the Association, Minutes 1900 to 1916. 12 1/2 x 8 inch tan hard cover book with red corners (a ledger type book). Printed in black ink on the cover: "Carbon County Wool Grower's Association Incorporation." This book contains early history of the sheep ranchers with their names and their ranches.
Book includes handwritten minutes from meetings. President of first meeting entered Dec. 22, 1900 is J. E. Osborne. There is a 3 page typed history of the organization stapled onto page 3 in book. First officers were: Dr. J. E. Osborne, President; Wm. Daley Sr., Vice President; J. M. Rumsey, Treasurer; W. W. Daley, Secretary. It is noted W.W. Daley remained secretary for over 40 years. In 1902 the Carbon County Association became a member of the National Livestock Association with a representation of 150,000 sheep.
They voted on issues important to the sheep industry, including quarantine, auction sales of wool, spray dipping of sheep; extermination of ticks, gratitude to the Union Pacific Railroad for their help in offloading feed along the line during winter, extending thanks to BPOE 609 for use of their building for holding meetings, and other issues as listed.
To hold one share in the local association a member was required to represent 600 head of sheep. In 1905 they became members of the National Wool Growers Association. They had 68 sheep outfits in good standing, represented 475,000 head of sheep. 1901 there were 1086 shares representing more than 652,000 head of sheep. It is noted that they opposed the establishment of the forest reserve.
Condition fair. Cover loose. Some wear on edges. Pages yellowing. Overage folder located in file cabinet 7, drawer 4 contains: a small printed piece of paper with directions to the members of the Association to furnish a list of employees, including herders, campmovers, dates of employment, etc. to the Board of Trustees.Collection
