Description

A light brown photograph album containing black paper pages with perforated slits to hold the photographs. Engraved on center front cover in gold lettering: Souvenir Cards. Album contains primarily WW I era Guam military photographs of soldiers, barracks, destroyer, and a few family photographs. Inside front cover is a photograph of the US (4 stack) Destroyer No. 68. (early coal burning vessel). Page 1 contains postcards of sailors demostrating "First Aid Guam;" US Marine climbing palm tree "Back to Nature no. 69;" Young woman, short hair, long print dress, marked "love at first sight." Pg. 2-7/14/1918-Parade; natives in front, band? followed by militia contingent, Guam, M. I. Other pages include, Marines in various poses, family photos taken in the west--possibly Elk Mountain area?(woman horseback wearing mohair chaps); cowboys; double photo of a young marine;seven marines seated in barren area; pin-up photo of young woman; Guam April 16, 1918, rifle practice; postcards: company of marines, sunset-Guam, "Kid Hoolbrook, ?, Guam; marines firing; Letter dated Dec. 11, 1917 from governor of Guam to Private William E. Richardson, U.S.M.C.; handwritten report on typhoon by Patrolman Richardson; more photos of Marines; two studio portraits of soldiers, Archie Hill and James A. Cloud, and a studio portrait of an unknown woman. On the back of a snapshot is written Cloud R. Dean, 212 East Cass St., Albion, Michigan. Other postcards include U. S. Naval Hospital, __, Guam, Dec. 1917. Album measures 10 7/8" x 11x 3/4" thick" Fair condition. Edges, binding, and covers are heavily worn. Many of the photographs are silvering.
