Description

Mrs. D. V. Bell, women in uniforms, Girl Cadets. Update - January, 2010: A black & white print attached to a cream colored image shows a group of girls dressed in a uniform (skirt with three horizontal rows of white border on lower edge, blouse with three vertical rows of white trim at bodice center and military caps with emblem on crown). Girls are standing in a long horizontal row, holding their rifles with the butts on the ground & the barrels skyward in center front of each girl with their hands on the end of the barrel top. The girl on the photo far left does not have a rifle & she is standing with her arms at her side. A black X is marked on image in front of girl 4th from right. A multistory/brick house with center door & two tall windows on each side is at background right. A short white picket fence is behind the girls. There is an abrupt drop from the ground where the girls are to the street. Other houses are seen background left with hills in the far background. Written on lower front edge in pencil: Girl cadets at Rawlins. This house in front of Baily Hotel. Written on lower edge in black ink: Mrs. D. V. Bell Rawlins, Wyo Written on lower edge in pencil: I am 11th from L-R A small white sticker at lower left edge: Mrs. W. H. Bell, 315 East Maple, Rawlins, WY 82301 Stamped on back in black ink: Bells Studio, 315 E. Maple, Rawlins, Wy Written in black ink: nephew of Mr. D. V. Bell Fair condition. Matboard is highly soiled with smudges, marks & stains. Matboard is fragile. Mat is brittle & disintegrating. Two corners are torn off & two are badly eroded. Edges are worn & missing pieces. Print is fading & has small tears at its top edge. Tiny black flecks are at several locations. Back of mat is also soiled with smudges & discolorations. A large tear is visible at back top right corner.
