Description

A walnut toned wooden desk that is composed of two base sections for left and right sides. Side left base has a revolving wooden insert that is made of 24 wooden slotted cubicles (file boxes) for papers/letters. Side right revolving base insert swings out to the right to show three tall vertical slots at left side for ledgers?, and to the right there are four flat trays at top, and four rectangular slots on lower area. These primary left and right wooden sections swing in to close and form a self contained desk. The desk top fits on top of the wooden bases to hold the sections together. The top surface of the desk has a green felt mat glued to an unknown dark unfinished wood. The primary walnut border area is exposed in a four inch border around the desk edges. There is a 25" wide front center drawer, with a smaller 12" drawer to each side. Desk is 31.25" high. The desk top surface is 59.25" side left to right and 32.5" across. The green felt area is 51.5" side to side, and 25" across front to back. There are locks at center front of all the drawers and the swivel sections. (There is no key). The bases are suppose to be attached to the levers at top and bottom of the desk with small wood screws. The desk top is suppose to be attached to the bases with larger wood screws. When the desk was assembled in the museum, we did not attach the screws due to possible corrosion. There are 12 -1.5" long screws and 11-5/8"-.75" short screws. These have been placed in a mylar zip bag and put in the large center desk drawer to the back area. At center front on the outside area of the desk is an attached brass plate (.50" x 3") embossed with "Wootens Rotary Desk Patented." Some of the drawers have felt type green fabric for lining the drawers. At needed areas (drawers & bases) there are engraved circular brass? pulls with triangle shaped back plates. One back plate is missing. There is an inordinate amount of wear to this desk with chips in the surfaces of the desk top, drawers, base corners, and molding. There are gouges in the green felt mat at various areas as well as stains. (See Condition Report). See original accession for history of this desk and the Wooten company.
