Description

A long, vertical glass covered walnut toned narrow wood frame containing a series of 5 black and white prints. Prints are attached to tan colored matboard and held together in a vertical row by heavy blue thread woven through the mat on each side and tied together at the top of each top of print. Print 1-Top-measures 5 1/2" x 6 1/2" (all prints are this same size). Image shows a log cabin with an L frame extension. House and yard are surrounded by wooden fence; smaller structures are at right. Mounted and unmounted horsemen are at side left and one at side right. Arid land in foreground. Arid land in foreground. Fair condition; fading, minor spots on print and mat. Print 2-Image shows arid vegetation in foreground, and a large mountain in the distance. Written at top in pencil: Elk Mtn. {Elk Mountain}. Print 3-Image shows a high sandstone retaining wall in foreground over which water is flowing at center from a small lake? A man is standing at the top of wall side left holding a long pole and a woman is at side right. She is wearing a long skirt, blouse and white bonnet. A tiny child wearing a bonnet is sitting at ther feet near the wall edge. Few evergreeens and hills are in background. Fair condition. Very faded. Written at top in pencil: Hat Ranch, WY near Saratoga. Update 2015: Identified as dam made by the Rattle Snake Water Company, near Elk Mountain, to supply Hanna. UP owned the Rattle Snake Water Co. Print 4-Image shows barren land in foreground and hills in background. A wooden rail fence is at side right in distance. Sagebrush apprears at mid center of image. Fair condition. Print is extremely faded, and it is difficult to discern features. Scratches and spots are seen on print through glass. Written in pencil at top edge, Hat Ranch, WY Print 5-Image shows a primary wooden frame house with smaller additions on side left (wooden frame) and smaller log structure on side right. House has a covered front porch with 4 support posts. An open post fence is at foreground across lower edge of print. Fair condition. Print is faded and has white area on side right and dark area top left. Unknown black marks at side left and other unknown droplets at top side right. Written in pencel on image at top edge: Home of W. B. Hugus, Saratoga, WY in 1883. Back of entire frame is professionally sealed and has tiny felt circles at lower edge corners. Total frame of 5 prints meaures 9 3/8" x 32 3/4."
