Photo of Flag raising ceremony on the old parade ground of Ft. Phil Kearney. Left to right are: Bugler Pobloski, Lt. Wheeler, William Murphy, William Daley, Gen. Carrington, S.S. Givson, Mrs. Carrington, J. Stawn, S.S. Peters. J. Owen. July 3, 1908. William Daley made the flagpole and officiated at the first flag raising over Ft. Kearney on Oct. 31, 1866. In 1908 the flag was lowered and presented to Gen. Carrington.. Update 2009: Black and white print attached to dark gray mat. There are two original prints of photograph. The mat has been cut down from its original size on both copies. Copy I: has blue writing on the front of print. Photo shows a distinguished group of ten men and one woman standing in a horizontal line except for one man who is standing to right of group with his hands behind his back. He is wearing a three piece suit with light colored western type hat. The group is standing in a grassy meadow with thigh high grass. A flag pole and United States flag is hanging extended at the base of the pole which is immediately behind the group. Man on left is wearing a military uniform and holding a trumpet at horizontal level on upper thigh. He is wearing cap style military hat. Man second from left is dressed in military uniform with cavalry style hat. In center of group is a military uniformed man with a western type coat with double rows of buttons on jacket front. He has his hat raised in the air. The woman in photo center is wearing an ornate hat, dark skirt, and white long sleeve blouse. Event appears to be a flag raising ceremony . Phil Kearney Oct 3, 1866. 1908 Flag then lowered and presented to Gen. Carrington. Second photo does not have writing on it. Condition of both prints is good. Photo 1: Outer edges of mat show rough edges from being cut and top edges of mat corners are abraded. Photo is soiled with dark smudges unidentified flecks or orange residue, and a few tiny black dots at various sections. A reddish smudge is at print center. A red and green circular sticker 1 3/4" in diameter with white print: James & Perry Kodak Cameras, Photo suppliers, Developing & Printing, etc. Sheridan, Wy. Photo 2: Same sticker as photo 1. Heavily soiled with dark smudges and streaks at various locations. Tiny flecks of unknown residue on right edge. A small stain is seen bottom left.
