V25055
THE FOAMING FALLS OF HUSQVARNA, NEAR JONKOPING, SWEDEN
This is one of the most famous waterfalls in all Sweden. The voume of the stream is not great, but the beauty of the waters in that splendid, glittering downpour, broken into sparkling spray and torn into rainbow-tinted mist, is something long remembered by visitors from all parts of Europe.
We are in south-central Sweden, close by the southern end of Lake Vettern - indeed, these waters are now hurrying on their way to the lake. Part of the river-fall is utilized to furnish power for certain local manufacturing industries, but those responsible for the matter very wisely refrain from spoiling one of the loveliest spots in Sweden by obtrusive evidences of buisness enterprise.
The quaint and pretty national costumes are in high favor. Though the clothes seen on the streets of Stockholm are just the conventional fashionable garments prescribed by modern modistes, people do still appreciate the beauty of the older styles as worn in a few country districts and like to see them in a place of this sort. The tendency is to continue the popularity of the gay embroidered bodices, white caps and long aprons such a these girls are wearing now.
Young people in the towns of Sweden have more freedom of action than in most European countries. Girls are admitted to the high schools and to the universities and are allowed nearly as much independence as in America.
