On the reverse the following is printed: 27522 A WINTER MORNING IN THE LOVELY VALLEY OF GRINDELWALD, SWITZERLAND More glorious mountain scenery than that which encircles the spot where we are now standing, in the very heart of the Swiss Alps, it would be hard to find anywhere in the world. The valley of Grindelwald, with its central village, Gydisdorf, upon which we are looking, lies at about 3,450 feet above sea level, but close around it three great mountains tower into the sky; the Eiger (13,040 ft.) at the south, the Schreckhorn (13,265 ft.) at the southeast, and the three-peaked Wetterhorn (12,150 ft.) at the east. Between the Wetterhorn and the Schreckhorn the long, glisenting ice sheet of the Upper Grindelwald Glacier creeps downward from the heights, and between the Schreckhorn and the Eiger, that of the Lower Grindelwald Glaicer. The cold, crystal torrents issuing from thses ice masses unite to form the Black Lutschine, a stream which, dancing on between pastures and adrk patches of woodland in the lovely Grindelwald valley, pours its waters finally into Lake Brienz, some twelve miles northwest of Gydisdorf. Grindelwald has become one of th favorite resorts of tourists in Switzerland both for summer and winter, its bracing, equable climate rendering it delightful at all seasons. Here the visitor may indulge in almost any form of outdoor sport. To those, particularly, who enjoy the zest and perils of mountain climbing, the snow-clad peaks rising on every hand offer never-enidng incentives to effort. Many of the ascents are for experts only, requiring several days to complete and involving much toil. On the other hand, many elevations, affording magnificent panoramas of the surrounding ranges, also exist, which are easy of access and which can readily be climbed by even the inexperienced.
