France and Adams occupy large stone building on front built by France in 1877 – main floor for retail, track office in rear, basement storage. A large warehouse fronting on cedar used to store flour and grain; J. W. Hugus Co. successors to Trabing Bros. who established a branch house spring of 1880; Rawlins Drug Store 1876 M. E. Hocker + Co (Peterson); H. Rasmusson – came fall of 1881, set up in old courthouse, now in Baxter building; P. J. Foster tobacco, books, stationary, came here as RR brakeman and conductor, opened store on front street 1876, moved in 1879; Dyer and Northington – Alhambra – Dyer came in 1868, Northington came to snake river in 1873, business built by Pat Downe in 1873, enlarged by I. C. Miller following year, then sold out in 1881; William Jungquist hardware and agricultural implements, 5th and cedar, erected frame building in 1879, moved to new building he built; R. C. Magor, owner of wholesale/retail grocery and liquor business begun by Jerry Shehan in 1869 – William Granger bought it in 1879, then 1880 Bennet and Magor bought it, then Magor bought out Bennet; Smith and Ash – Rawlins Market, P. W. Smith came 1868, Ash came with the Pike’s Peak shurh, firm established by Baier and Smith in 1873; William Daley furniture, undertaking and lumber; Rankin Bros. livery, feed, and stable, established by J. G. Rankin 1875; R. B. Knox, saddles, harnesses, etc est. 1879, now on cedar st.; W. J. Smith, U. P. Hotel and restaurant established 1872, pioneer baker of Rawlins; W. D. Fort, liquor dealer, rented building on 4th and Front. In 1878; H. F. Errett and Co lumber builder contractor, est. 1877 – last summer when UPRR raised the freight on lime Errett built a kiln and now makes better lime here; Morgan and McCarty – liquor dealers, established 1879, purchasing brick building on front built by Dennis Murphy 1877; Howard Bair, liquor dealer, succeeds to business established 1876 by Fred Wolf; Bank of James France, opened 1881, formal opening Jan 1882; H. T. Snively, groceries provisions and bakery, erected building on n. front 1880, added bakery 1881; Mrs. T. O. Bailey millinery and ladies good, originally opened 1877; Mrs. S. D. N. Bennett, stationary notions etc, opened news stand in old journal office N. Front fall 1879, spring 1880 moved to south side then built new building now occupied; R. B. Robinson jewelry watchmaking est. Business 1872; A. L. Mauk manufacture boots and shoes 1881; peter Higney/Heagney shoemaking, leather, findings, located here spring 1871; Henry Wolf tobacco established 1881; Palmer House, erected 1880 by Fred Wolf, opened by Fred Palmer then sold to Mr. S. M. Miller who sold to Mr. Hohn, present owner; Maxwell House/RR hotel Kitcher brothers leased it early 1880, remodled, opened under management of Mr. John Shetter; Rawlins House erected 1873 by H. A. Kirk, sold next year to L. Hayes who added addition 1880; Hayes Brothers livery and sale stable, established 1879 by Morgan Irons; J. C.
