F. Col. 7 Rawlins Public Library now becomes Carbon Co. Public Library -- since institution came under supervision of county tax money. Library now located in RH.S building in a large room on west ground floor -- Mrs. Fricks is librarian from the first on duty 6 days a week! (Sun. closed)

F. Col. 6 Washington D.C. Mon 25th I.C.C. to hold hearings on Morse Bros. plans to scrape...Morse Bros. would sell RR. to Valley Folks but as the ranchers have had a...they can’t meet the pace. Atty. L.R. Armstrong still representing them!

F. Col. 7 For some time Homer A. France cashier at R.N.3. And...have been trying to get U.S. Weather bureau of Dept. of Ag. to broadcast weather forecasts for the region nightly -- Its being done in Oakland California region.

Herzler Jan. 20, 1891. No children. Soon moved to Rawlins -- lived here until Jenny killed in 1916. Following death of her cousin Mrs. Ida Rivera -- she became dub-mon to Rubie...Ruth, Adar Carmon, carrie for them 27 ½ years. Mrs. H. moved to Waterloo Iowa in 1918 until one year ago -- then her bad health caused her to be moved in with...daughter, Mrs. Arthur Peterson!

Williams had issued an ultimatum to different terminals (Rawlins included) that all form of gambling must be suppressed forthwith under pain of the...of the R.R. U.P. investigation…trainmen were hard to find when called. Many playing cards in...parlor, tobacco shop, & coffee houses -- Some GAMBLING (NO) As per orders put into effect early this
week no U.P. poll boy was to seek trainmen in such places. “For the good of the (UP’s) Service “These places must be cleaned up.” Mayor J. H...orders police to close all gambling...in Rawlins. Unofficially...any form of gambling whatever will come under the ban of the law & be followed by arrest.

F.Col.7 County Commissioners adjust...on S&ERR -- for term of 3 yrs. 26, 27, & 2 total state, co., and city takes shall not exceed $50000 per year! & for 29, 30, & 31 total shall not exceed $750.00

F.Col.4. Landing field inspected. Low hills to west a problem -- air currents unpredictable. Tues. 16th H.W. Huking...of Mt. Division his mail and local… 500…and Co eng. J.W...studied other possible sites. 1 near County Club, 2nd 1 mile S.E. of town, 3rd 2 miles further north of current field, but best is site ½ mile S.E. of current field near high-way. Would be little trouble to move there!

F.Col.15. Luxus Cafe run for several years by T.W. Craig sold Tues. 23rd to Ed Rodgers & Brady Cooper. Will reopen after renovations middle of next week!
April 1. Thurs. 1926 F.Col.3 Hatfield No3 comes in a gosser at 3935ft. 20 million cubic ft vol. & 1565 lb. rock pressure. God extremely Sep. Tues PM. 30th water began dripping...Wed. 31st well...now on way to turn gas into Pr gas line. Wall must be tested to find sources of water and gas.
F.Col. 4. Merchants want Rawlins To Hanna Bus 44 mile fare tentatively set at $2.50 one way, $4.00 round trip. Who will do it?
C.Col. 4. Another unit of Lincoln Hwy, 26 miles East of Wamsutter to Carbon Co. line...to U.P.R.R. to be built. Will not coincide with old route. Distance Rawlins to Wamsutter will be 2 miles shorter.
April 8, Thurs. 1926 F.Col.2. Joseph B. Maghee died after short illness at CCMH Mon. 5th. Maghee born Indiana Dec. 1844, came West 1868 -- originally settled in Western Wyoming. Returned to Indiana 1870 and wed Miss Sarah Phillips. They returned to Wyoming & Platte Valley. He went into ranching and...Did very well with cattle. Made his home in Valley and Saratoga for 56 years.
G.A.R. vet. survived by widow & bro, Dr. J.G. Maghee (Lander), Nephew Val Maghee came from Lander to take charge of funeral arrangement. Funeral service -- Masonic Hall Thurs afternoon 8th. Buried Saratoga.
April 15, Thurs. 1926 F.Col.1. Republicans wins city election I.J. Rendle, Mayor. Henry Parrett, Trustee -- Rendle 598 to Neaths 476 = 122 majority.
F.Col.2. Con. Trustee WMF Smith walked away early Mon morn. 12th. Doing 15 to 20 for...Cheyenne Oct. 31, 1925 -- 5’9” tall +-157lb, complexion, light brown -- with...eyes, has train...left arm broken near wrist -- leaving enlarged joint.
F.Col.5. Day after election outgoing mayor Neath, a democrat, fires Chief of Police Fred Hillabrand, a republican. Neath appoints self chief until Rendle is sworn in a mayor!
F.Col.7. Roscoe L. Donnell eldest son of late J. Donnell found dead in bed at Ferris -- by an attendant seat to arose him. Ill for several years. “Heart” taken to Collins-Franks mortuary gets body -- C-F located in old

Donnell home on 4th. The...house Roscoe was born and spent his childhood growing up in. Roscoe L. Donnell buried by Rev. E.F. Krapt from mortuary -- entered in Rawlins cemetery -- family plot. Survived by mother -- Louise, visiting Cal., sis. Mrs. Ray Ferris, Rawlins, & bro., Harold D. of Los Angeles.
F.Col.7. Ike Wagner, old Timer of Saratoga shoots self this morn. Was 60, single.

F.Col.6. W.T. Pergam died Fri. 16th at daughters home in Pueblo Colo (med W.E….) was 82. Came to Wyo 48 years ago -- settled in Platte Valley, home at Encampment, raised cattle, Republican politician. Survived by widow, daughter and 6 sons: Creve, Benjamin, Joseph & George -- Encampment; Thomas, San Francisco and John, Cheyenne. Funeral today a Pergam Ranch -- burial in the local cemetery.
F.Col.7. WM F. Smith NO3755 caught at Sidney, Nebraska. Returned to Pen Sat 17th. Mon. 12th +-6AM Trustee handy man at wardens home “beat it”. Special Agent 9 (B.P. Cop) Lon Roach brought d...in from Cheyenne where Sheriff J.W.Me Daniel of Sidney delivered him. Fugitive walked to near Parco “laid out” in sage during the day -- then out to Hanna to hop freight, stopped in Cheyenne to visit friend. Then walked to Hillside -- hopped freight to Sidney.
April 29, Thurs. 1926 F.Col.3. Saratoga Stock...Bank held up Mon. 26th. Lone gunman drove up in stolen car -- took $3080 from cashier Donald Rankin -- W.H. C…
F.Col.7. C.J. Johnson...sheepman died Thurs. 22nd at home in Denver -- died of Brights Disease, was 69. Born Stockholm, Sweden, came to U.S. with parents at age 9. First settled in Iowa then S. Dakota.

Came to Rawlins early 1880s -- established blacksmith shop south of RR tracks. Later bus. grew to include livery,...& feed goods. By now business was on corner of 5th Buffalo S.W. 1885 went into partnership -- Johnson & Halstead Sheep Co. Bought out partner and Inc. under name of Fremont Sheep Co. (still existing). Johnson retired 10 years ago from...bus -- moved to Denver...1897 wed Miss Frances E. Foster -- 6 kids -- 5 survive, all of Denver: Foster, Parker, Ruth, Earl, & Carl.

History of building: built in 1884 by Peter Gormley, for years...sto...told P.G. owned the sole bath tub. (tin) made -- made extra cash renting out tub baths, 50 cents per bath -- soap & crash towel!
May 20, Thurs. 1926 F.Col.1. Saratoga Bank robber caught at Paula Kandens. Robbers...C. Hastings -- he did 2 years in New Mexico Pen for receiving stolen goods. Had been reported seen in Brownsville, Texas, St. Louis, MO. & other places -- Kans. & Oklahoma. First of week, Sheriff Austin got word “H” had been picked up at Eric Kans. -- left Tues. night. (Why 2 towns?)
F.Col.5. Search concluded for body of Gov Johnson, son of C.M. Johnson -- lost in blizzard Dec. 13 ‘25. -- sites of loss reported -- not new except C…was at right truck. Reward offered to those who find body --...

Pg.15.Col.5. Harry E. Ball died May 7 at Encampment home. Born Loda, Ill. June 12, 1860. Came to Rawlins in 1884, stayed until 1897. In 1893 superintended building at State Pen. 1897 went into mining at Purgatory, 1903 at Encampment, superintended building of the smelter and became head millwright. 2 years ago suffered injury which resulted in cancer that killed him. Funeral services at City Hall Encampment Sun. afternoon, 16th. Item reprint from Encampment Echo.

F.Col.5. Mon. night 24th Sheriff Austin & Geo C. Hastings arrived from Kansas. Hastings, an otherwise ‘model prisoner’ has refused to talk of self or crime! Cashier Don Rankin of Saratoga...Bank positively I.D.’d him Wed. afternoon, 26th. Justice Watson held “H”preliminary -- result he was bound over to Dist. Court. (Oct. 11) bail set at $10,000, Prosecutor McMicken & Defense D.R. Higley. Seven witnesses called up state -- 6 men, 1 woman (later came into bank during hold-up) Rankin sure of man others not…!
F.Col.6. Lake Valley Oil Co. selling near Hatfield holding --...They have all the claims!
F.Col.5. Colo Migratory Stock Law declared unconstitutional by Colo Supreme Court first of week. This law required inspection of al stock to be brought in for grazing by non-residents only. Chester Morgan of Snake River challenged law in Courts -- only arrest for crossing line 4 sheep form Wyo. by 40 pinched for bringing in stock form New Mex. Clarence Brimmer defended Morgan Carbon Co...footed the bills!

June 3, Thurs. 1926.F.Col.3. Final details of transfer of cemetery to city from Rawlins Cemetery Assoc. RCA’s work of 40 years past acknowledged surviving. Assoc. Members H. Rasmusson & Frank Blank thanked.

June 10, Thurs. 1926 F.Col.11. Sub-contractor Bennet making excellent progress installing storm sewers. Ditching completed, lots of pipe laid. Pipe from Front to Linc-Way done so paving can start in next few days. Bennett hopes to be done with Steven sewers in next few weeks!
F.Col.3. City Steam & Rawlins Laundry consolidated mr/mrs M.M. Bonds & Mr. A.H. Hankle of R.L. buy out L.C. Sommerville of C.S.L. first of week. B...worked 9 years for Anderson...later sold out to Sommerville!

F.Col.6. Neil Hart, movie star, director in Rawlins for past week, left Tues. 6th for California where he will try to sell his Co. on filming the Rawlins Rodeo. Last week rodeo committee took Hart on tour to Sweetwater County...ranch, Pathfinder dan, etc. -- Fri has...at Roy Sporlock’s ranch all to show possible sites for filming in picture. Sat. in Rawlins and Sun. Saratoga Rodeo.
F.Col.7. C.R. McBride U.P...conductor shot in right shoulder near 11PM Sat. 3rd. Peep a “negro” hobo C.R. had ordered off his freight at Bitter Creek. Peep, arrested in Green River -- being held there. McB, now walking beside his slowly moving train, when he came to an oil tank car he...hoble aboard. He ordered them off and all complied save one, who drew a 25 Colt Auto and said to the conductor “you get off,” M&B started to comply but as he jumped the hobo shot him in top of right shoulder. Buller came out 4” below top of shoulder wound -- not serious.
July 15, Thurs. 1926 F.Col.1. City op’s to paint all fire plugs bright red -- cost 25 cents each.
Louise Sahalle newly appointed Police Judge -- $1500 load approved.
F.Col.3. Allied Contractors. Mon 12th began tearing out old crosswalks & curbings on Buffalo -- this much work almost same Twist 3rd and 6th. Contractor to run cement for...of new gutters & curbs today. All curb and gutter work to be done before paving starts. Co. has set up rock crusher & cement plant in rock quarry on base of Monument Hill -- cement will be hauled to paving dist. Allied has opened offices in New Albany Hotel early this week J.H. McBeth, super in charge, D.H. Hinnitt asst. and Timekeeper.
F.Col.4. D.C. Ross Contractor last week began putting concrete retaining walls around new high school...all but done. Sidewalks also being laid on West, South, & East!
F.Col.4. Business women organize club at dinner tonight at Ferris Hotel!
F.Col.5. City for past 2 weeks changing water plugs on mains in paving dist. moving same week “into” sidewalks so as West to be covered by paving.
F.Col.7. Some time ago city gave CofC. ten year lease on Rodeo Grounds for $500 per year. New grandstand now being built. City hires Henry Cashman to build a 120 ft. long structure -- same design, etc. as present one and build it onto West end of present grandstand. Areas of...along front. Judges box & bandstand to be built over “other” Twixt stands! 3600 with 20x20 ft. horse…

...and 325 ft. of new fence at east end of grounds work to be done by July 30. Stands to be substantial.
Neil Hart sends Ring Trophy for rodeo. 20 karat white gold with sapphire setting & 14 small diamonds surrounding sapphire, to be given rider with highest marks in bucking horse camp. Note. 84...souvenir rodeo program printed on RRep presser. Old & New Rawlins written up.
Pg.4.Col.3. Old Scribner Line -- Stage Coach sold to Denver man a couple of weeks ago. RRep hears from Chad M. Wilton, Saratoga, a veteran driver. That couch was one of two bought by Jim Stevenson, a pioneer…& mail contractor of Omaha. They were bought for use on mail contract Stevenson had for 4 years on...Alamosa Colo run. Then coachro wed...several...out of Yankton S.D. (mail run)...of mail contract Coachs, etc. takes to Omaha and stored. Eventually Jim Ranking bought them for Rawlins & Encampment line during Copper boom. Scribner bought the line and started passenger run with same Walcott to Saratoga...town! During storage period Coaches were once shipped to Casper for an Omaha business mens tour of Yellowstone. Then, the tour over, Coaches were shipped back to Omaha. From Saratoga Sun.

July 29, Thurs. 1926 F.Col.1. Neil Hart will film Rawlins Rodeo -- Co. left Calif Tues. 27th due here Sat or Sun. Picture to be called “The Rawlins Rodeo” will...rodeio and sights...by Hart several weeks ago. Rodeo committee sets up office in Ferris Hotel...formerly Continental Supply Co.
