Photo of group of people in Rawlins called "Rawlins Horribles". taken at 5th and Front on July 4, 1883. Established lot 22 block 24. Smith and Adams moved building from Southside and this location in Spring, 1879. P. L. Smith left firm in Sept., 1886. William Ash sold to I.C. Miller, April, 1885. Miller and Smith from April, 1885 - Sept. 1886. Miller and Hunt to Frank Keefe in building in Sept. 1893. B. L. Cannon as Rawlins Meat Market opened in May 1891 for 9 months. C. H. Ketchum purchased Rawlins Meat Market in Oct. 1887. Update 2009: Black and white print of large group of people on horses, wagons an don foot. A cannon sets in front of group next to railroad tracks. Some people are in costume clothing with masks, pointed hats, loud print fabrics. ?Signs on building in background read: "Smith & Ash Rawlins, Market". Sign on wagon: "Rawlins Corner" is all that is visible. Some people on top of wagon have band instruments. Written on back in blue ink: "This picture is called 'Rawlins Horribles'" "it was taken at the corner of 5th and Front streets. Smith and Ash was the first meat market in Rawlins and stood to the West corner of the intersection." This is the 500 block of Front St. Written on back in blue ink on right edge: "Rawlins Horribles". Written in black ink on back: "Copied by state, mounted" "Page 88, pix 1 2 1/2 x 6, 1-Daily Times." Printed on back in black ink: "M.D. Houghton, Photographer" "All Kinds of Photographic Work". "Rawlins, WYO." Condition good. Adhesive tape on both sides top of print, liquid stain, soiled, bottom right paper missing, accretion, scratched, yellowed. Attached is the fee listings for those requests. Update 2014: A parade of horribles is when people paraded around with costumes on. Sometimes they were grotesque.
