Photo of Front Street looking West. Update 5-2009. Black and white print and one copy of a group of mounted soldiers on Front Street. Two soldiers in lead on either side are on light colored horses, the remainder are on dark horses. An American flag is flying and one man holds a flat on which is imprinted "9" on top and "I" on bottom. A building on photo right is identified as "Daley & Dow Carpenters & Builders" "Lumber, Lath, Doors, Sash" and more outside of picture view. A dog is in front of soldiers. Buildings are seen in the distance and hill in west Rawlins. Written in blue on back : "Looking West on Front Street Summer of 1898 when soldiers came down from Lander to go off to Spanish American War." In pencil: "Photograph April 26, 1898 Tuesday, Co. I & D of 9th Calvary [sic Cavalry] at 1: 00 afternoon." "Block 24, lots 14, 15, 16. Built businesses Lumbar and furniture and undertaking on lot 16 in 1881. Quit undertaking business in 1889. Sold business to Daley & Dow in 1894. Proved lots 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 in June 1922. In July 1922 sold to Overland Lumber Co." On white adhesive tag: "Rawlins St. Scenes." In black: "Copied by State, Mounted." Condition good. Emulsion impacted, rainbow creasing, accretion, fingerprints, scratched, edges worn and paper missing. COPY: Type on white paper attached to back: "Looking West on Front Street, Summer of 1898 when soldiers came down from lander to go off to Spanish American War. Photograph April 26, 1898 Tuesday.
