Description

Hunting Trip with Verne Ferris, dog, Bruiser, Roscoe O'Donnel, Malachi Dillon and Ray Ferris, 1904-05. Update 2008: Black and white print mounted on dark tan matboard. Written beneath print on matboard in pencil: Verne Ferris, Bruiser, Rosco O'Donnel, Malachi Dillon, Ray Ferris. Print depicts two boys and two men in the countryside with short vegetation on foreground and brush in the near background with wide expanse to horizon in far background right. On side left is a cylinder metal stove pipe in upright position on the ground with a rectangular metal wood stove with high stovepipe attached to its top left. A saddle lies on the grass in foreground side left. A large wagon with seat in front for two and a wooden table attached at rear, a large box in wagon with lid open is at near rear of wagon and the tongue of the wagon is lying on the ground. A boy wearing dark pants suit and light high crowned hat seated at rear of wagon on an object holding a light colored dog in front of him. the second boy is dressed in dark pants, vest, a patterned dark scarf is tied at his neck, light shirt and hat is kneeling with a rifle propped up on ground and held by his right hand. A cartridge belt is thrown over his right shoulder. A black dog is to his left as is a man sitting on a wooden box dressed in dark pants, vest, striped light shirt, tie and hat holding a rifle across his knees. A man dressed in high top laced boots with his pant legs tucked in, dark shirt, tie an lighter hat is wearing a cartridge belt around his waist with pistol and holster on side right. He is holding a rifle with a long barrel across his waist at front. Painted on side wall of wagon: Studebaker. At top edge right is printed: J.W. Hugus and Co. Rawlings [sic] Wyo. a dark jacket is hung to side of buggy front with a high buggy whip next to it. Written in pencil on a tiny white sticker on back: Ferris. Fair condition. Wear and soiling on all edges, emulsion is abraded at sides and mat is worn off at all edges. Tape stain side left mat with yellowed adhesive residue. Other surface anomalies include black residue, scratches and flecks in emulsion.
