Black & white copy print of an elderly Native American man. He is standing in front of a wood sided structure & a wood chair is behind him. He wears a dark heavy shirt & is wrapped in a wide strip blanket from the chest down. His hair is grey & hangs down on his shoulders.
Written on back in pencil: "Chief Washakie of the Shoshoni Tribe. He was given the name Pina Quanah (Smell of Sugar) at birth around the turn of the century. He acquired the name Washakie after he killed his first buffalo & made a rattle out of part of the skin. Washakie means "The Rattle" "Chief Washakie"
