Description

Set of 1920's mail plane landing. Update 1/2008: Set of 10 color prints of the excavation of the landing strip for the U.S. Mail planes that flew into Rawlins, WY in the 1920's. A(1): Image of 2 pipes in concrete footings, one with stick and white flag upright in it, being dug up in a field. Written on the back in black ink: "Two of 1920's mail plane landing light foundations found in field 100yds northwest of junction of US 287 and Aberdeen, also present were glass remains of lens covering bulbs, bulb glass, and bases. Photographs A, B, C, and D same light[.] Photographs E & F same field but about 75 yds South-East of the two in the photographs]" A(2): Image of a concrete plug with pipe embedded in it and insulated wires coming out of the base. Buildings and fenced area and late model blue jeep in background. Written on the back in black ink: "This is one of the lights foundations with wire attached, moved there from approximate location of South ball field in front of Recreation Center[.] Site is South of ball field as in photographs[.] B(1): Image of a concrete plug with pipe imbedded in it and insulated wires coming out of the base sitting upright out of the ground. Buildings in background. B(2): Image of 2 pipes in concrete footings being excavated in a field. Close-up and different angle of A(1). C(1): Image of a large concrete plug with writing on the top flat end. "Ben" "J.C.D" "6.28.2". Other chunks of concrete at right. Late model blue jeep in background.
