Current phone system originated in 1899 with private communications franchise sold by the city to Thomas A. Rendle, owner of Rawlins Electric Light and Fuel Co. Details system, and sale to Rocky Mountain Bell.
Service to Fort Steele, Platte Valley to Saratoga, Encampment.
Highlights that 18 years before this period, 1881 private telephone system created by Homer Merrell, James R. Hawley, Lem Learn. Description of line connections, page 2; phone, page 4.
This system abandoned in 1885.
4/20/1901-Carbon county Journal: Phonographic telephone invented.
