Scope and Content

A 12" x a12.50 tan scrapbook with tie binding and decorative gold floral design on all sides of front cover. There is an ornate blank shield design at center of book. Scrapbook appears to be a personal scrapbook of Mrs. Elfie Gordon. It is begun in 1964 and has one decal dated 1977. Book is composed primarily of newspaper clippings of St. Thomas Choir Guild, Eastern Star, Union Pacific Old Timers Club, VFW Auxiliary, Carbon County Historical Society, personal cards and other mementoes. 1965-Items pertaining to the Wyoming State Historical Society Annual Convention, notes, letters, directions for set up, etc. Episcopal Convocation held in Worland, WY 2/1-3/1965; Old Timers Club Dinner Held at Jeffrey Center; Clipping on James Engstrom, Elfie wrote, "my nephew." Mrs. Edna Stookey honored for 50 years membership in Order of the Eastern Star; Friendly Dames Homemakers Club clipping; A napkin engraved with Edna Stooky, 1915-1965 Note: Many pages have things removed from them with glue remnants remaining. Mrs. Charles Lytle named President of Woman's Club 3/8/1965; New officers elected to Eastern Star; A St. Thomas Choir Guild Year Book showing photo of inside of church, dates 1964-1965. Carbon County Jubilee staff photo with names 6/4/1965; A colored photograph of Elfie Gordon, with label Wyoming Chapter No. 7 Eastern Star. Jade shop card with a tiny piece a jade affixed; Table prayers said; Veteran's of Foreign Wars Community Service certificate awarded to Elfie Gordon 1965. Certificate of Election Official issued to Elfie Gordon 7/1964. Letter of thanks to Elfie Gordon and the Ladies Auxiliary for the lap robes sent to the veterans' hospital in Cheyenne, 2/4/1964. 12/5/1965-Officers chosen for Carbon County Historical Society, included Jeanne Lambertson, J. Reuel Armstrong, Elfie Gordon, Ruth Hornbeck and others. 1966-Neal Miller honored during Historical Society Meeting-named director of State Archives; St. Thomas Choir Guild booklet; Order of the Eastern Star booklet, Mementoes from Canada, Yellowstone, and Virginia City Montana (1977); Mrs. Carl Waeckerlin, President of Old Timers Club., 10/16/1966; Newspaper thank you in form of a poem by Chuck Ogburn, reelected Sheriff, 1966. 1967-Marie Jack elected President of VFW Auxiliary, Sandy Jaure, VP, Ruth Jack, Conductress, etc. Overage folder (File Cabinet 7, drawer 4) contains: Memorabilia consisting of printed hymn words, clipping, "Wyoming Joins in Celebration of National Women's History Week," (article includes a newspaper photo of Dr. Lillian Heath and goes into detail on the accomplishments of many women in Wyoming; clipping "St. Thomas Choir Guild;" Elfie Gordon Calling card; A small booklet published by the Wyoming State Archives and Historical Dept, 1959 containing information about the Wyoming state flag origins, the bucking horse emblem, state seal, state motto, slogans, facts concerning naming the territory, statehood, organization, state institutions, state buildings, Wyoming State Archives; State Historical Society, Size, Resources and Industries including agriculture, Wyoming Wildlife, Governors of Wyoming (both territorial and state), historical landmarks, history of Indians in Wyoming, chronology of events in Wyoming History, places to visit, etc; A letter dated 10/27/1965 to Mrs. Steinmetz thanking the Ladies' Auxiliary of VFW Post 1881 for entertaining at the Veterans; a letter to Elfie Gordon 6/15/1965 from Veterans Administration, 6/15/1965 thanking her for support of the Hospital patients and staff; tickets to a play; clipping 9/1967 re: Mrs. C. W. Ogburn; clippings dated 10/1967 re: St. Thomas Guild, VFW news.
