Written on back in blue ink: "Given to Museum by Rawlins Daily Times" "General Grenville M. Dodge who was sent to plan a direct route for the U.P.R.R. John A. Rawlins accompanied him on this surveying job and Gen. Dodge named the town of Rawlins, Wyoming after John Rawlins"
