Black & white studio portrait. Image of two girls standing side by side. They are wearing light colored dresses with pleated yokes, high lace collars, pouffy sleeves & pleated skirts with two wide, flat ruffles at the bottom. They have on dark socks & shoes, pearl necklaces & large light colored bows in their dark hair. A studio back drop is behind them. Engraved in top left corner is: "The Ferris Studios" In center bottom a teepee & "Rawlins, Wyo." Good condition. Soiled, scratched, mat scuffed, tack holes, paper missing. Size 6 3/4 x 8 1/2." The photograph has been identified as the daughers of Mr. and Mrs. Con Ryan (he was an engineer for the Union Pacific). The girl on the photo left is Belle Ryan Welch (1883-1965), and the girl on photo right is Belle's sister who passed away at an early age. The family came to Rawlins in 1884 when Belle was one year old. She held many jobs over the years including working for law firms, businesses, and as a city clerk. She was very involved in the community, and was referred to as an Humanitarian in her newspaper obituary. Her sister was Margaret Ryan and she died in 1922 in childbirth. She married Fred Kelly.
