Photo taken in 1886 at Saratoga Hot Springs hotel. The hotel burned down in the early 1900's. It was owned by Bill Cadwell. Mrs. Cadwell is on the horse in front of the hotel. The man in back with the stiff hat and long whiskers is C. A. Crawford, editor of the Sun at that time. The man behind the lady on the horse is a shoemaker names Mauk. One copy
Update 1/2010: Black and white print. Snapshot. Image of a multi-story frame building with a small columned front porch around front door; second level balcony on top of porch. Group of men and women-standing, on horseback and in two buggies-in front of building. Sparsely vegetated yard with young bare trees in foreground.
Written on back in pencil is a note in shorthand that has been transcribed and typed on back underneath: "This was taken in 1886 at the Saratoga Hot Springs. This hotel burned down in the first part of the nineties. it was known as the Bill Caldwell [corrected to Cadwell] hotel. The lady on the horse is Mrs. Caldwell [corrected to Cadwell]. The man in back with the stiff hat and long whiskers is C. A. Crawford, editor of the Sun at that time. The man behind the lady on the horse is a shoemaker named Mauk". Written in pencil on white, adhesive label pasted to back: "Saratoga".
