Broken crankshaft brought him down in Nebraska. The Flying Parson and Crew, photo of two flyers with dog standing by a plane.
Update 2/2008: Black and white print. Image of two men and a dog posed by the tail of a bi-plane (two-winged aircraft). Men are dressed in long leather flight jackets with leather helmets and goggles. Man at center has riding pants and tall lace up boots. Other man is wearing regular slacks and boots. Dog is sitting on tail piece.
Written on original negative at lower left: ""The Flying Parson" and crew." "Rosner Photo, Rawlins, Wyo."
Written on back in pencil: "Broken crank shaft brot him down in Neb.".
Paper yellowed. Upper right corner bent-emulsion cracked; other corners minor damage. Writing on back impacting emulsion at bottom. Paper curled.
Update 2014: ran as mystery photograph, identification is Rev. Belvin Maynard, "The Flying Parson", at the start of the Great American Air Race his dog jumped in the plane as he took off. He flew along what is now I-80 and he was one of four pilots to finish the race. He was from North Carolina. The co-pilot was Sgt. William E. Kline. 1919 TransContinental Air Race.Collection
