Photo of Boy's Drill Team, July 4, 1890. Drilled by John C. Friend. Will Irving, Claude Friend, Jack Naugle, Walton France, Tudy Fort, Roy Riford, Walton Lane, Roscoe Donnell, Kleber Hadsell. Update - 2009: Black & white print. Mounted on tan matboard. Image of a group of 10 small boys in uniform standing in a line on a dirt field with a small cannon. Large stone factory (?) building in background. Boy at right is larger & older? than the others; second in line is holding an American flag & appears to have a rope tied around his waist; all the other boys appear to be holding onto that rope; other end of rope tied to cannon handle. Written on lower front margin in pencil: "about 1890" Written on back in black ink: Will Irving, Claude Friend, Jack Nagle, Walton France, Tudy Fort, Roy Riford, Walter Lane, Rosco Donnell, Kleber Hadsell - about 1890 July 4 Drilled by John C. Friend. Mounted on acidic matboard. Badly soiled. Edge & corner damage; upper right corner badly bent. Image surface soiled and scratched. Shadows/damage on original negative at left side, center & upper right.
