Photo of the Rawlins Horribles, July 4, 1883. Taken at 5th and Front Streets, Rawlins. Established lot 22 block 24. Smith and Adams moved building from Southside to this location in Spring, 1879. P.L. Smith left firm in Sept. 1886. William Ash sold to I.C. Miller, April, 1885. Miller and Smith from April, 1885 to Sept. 1886. Miller and Hurt to Frank Keefe in building in Sept. 1893. B. L. Cannon as Rawlins Meat Market opened in May, 1891 for nine months. C. H. Ketchum purchased Rawlins Meat Market in Oct., 1887. UPDATE 2009: Black and white print of group of people standing, riding horses and on wagons. They are dressed in costume with masks, large hats, and some with large print, loose fit clothing. A cannon is in foreground setting by railroad tracks. Sign on building in background reads: "Smith & Ash Rawlins Market". This photo taken on 500 block of Front Street. Print mounted on tan mat. Written on bottom border in blue ink: "Horribles, Rawlins July 4, 1883." Written on back in pencil: "Rawlins Horribles". Written in red pencil: "Rawlins July 4, 1883". Stamped in blue ink: (partially visible) "OUGHTON Photographer. Photographic work. Rawlins, Wyo.". Taped to back history: Rawlins Horribles taken at 5th and Front. Established lot 22, block 24. Smith and Adams moved bldg from South side to this location in Spring 1879. P.L. Smith left firm in Sept 1886. Wm. Ash sold to I.C. Miller April 1885. Miller and Smith from April 1885 to Sept. 1886. Miller and Hurt to Frank Keefe in building in September 1893. E.L. Cannon as Rawlins Meat Market opened in May 91 from 9 months. C.H. Ketchum purchased Rawlins Meat Market in Oct. 1887. Condition good. Scratched, soiled, fingerprints. Liquid stained, soiled. Back paper ripped off center. Update 2014: A parade of horribles is when people paraded around with costumes on. Sometimes they were grotesque.
