Description

Historical fiction book entitled "Between Two Tribes," by Forest B. Dunning. Story concerns the Northern Cheyenne tribe starving because of corruption, mismangement and shortage of Reservation wild game. Forced to go off reservation to hunt, a white man is killed. Willis Rowland, aka Long Forehead, is a mixed blood interpreter who serves as investigator. A second white is killed and there is a confrontation between the U. S. Army and members of the Cheyenne Tribe. Map on page iii shows the Northern Plains and the Great Sioux Reservation, marking the site of attacks. Physical Description: Front cover has a sepia toned western painting of horseback cavalrymen attacking a Native American chieftan on horseback. They all are firing rifles. Superimposed at center top left is a colored painting of a Native American chieftan on horseback wearing long feathered headdress. His right hand is raised to the sky holding a lancet. Back cover is photograph of the site of white painted rocks covering the tracks of Head chief's horse down the hill. .6.25" x 9.25", pages v-xiv, 1-322.
