Description

This was taken in 1888 by F. M. Baker at 32 mile Ranch. Update 4/2011: Wood framed black and white print of the 32 Mile Ranch. Image shows flat terrain next to a meandering stream. There are 5 or 6 white tents and 4 or 5 wagons with white covers in the picture. In the foreground are two men on horseback on the left. There is a single saddled horse, but no rider. A wagon is next and a man stands slightly behind it. There are camp items on the ground and another horse with a man holding the reins and 3 more standing people on the right, one holding a shovel. The image is faded . Looks like horses or cattle in the background. On the front on a sticky tag: "This was taken in 1888 by F. M. Baker at 32 Mile Ranch own [sic] land by Swan Land and Cattle Co. and is on Little Medicine Bow Creek. This is part of Rodeo as is call today. For information see back of picture." Signed: "Rubie Rivera." On the back in pencil "Taken at 32 mile Ranch on Little Medicine Bow 1888 by F. M. Baker." In black ink: "Cannot recognize riders on this picture but I can see 5 camps indirectly. This is Two Bar outfit from Chugwater own by Swan Land and Cattle Co. as they owned this ranch at one time. This outfit was the largest in the country having cattle and ranches from Sidney, Nebraska to Rawlins, Wyo. South to Fort Collins and North to Sheridan and Lander . I don't think they ever knew just how many cattle they did own." Signed: "Rubie Rivera 12-7-27". There is a "D" on the back. Condition is fair. Very faded. Spots on pictures. Looked to have been matted. Back of framing paper is torn. Update 2013: Frame removed for conservation purposes.
