Baggs, 1896 Update March 2011: Black & white print & one opy print of early day Baggs, WY. On right side of photo is a line of buildings that are log or wood slab with false fronts, one has an awning out. Building closest to right is a two story with multiple windows on the front. Across the street is another log building with sign reading: "The Silver Club", another reading: "Restaurant". In the street is a wagon with double seats, a man & woman sitting on the front seat. Two buggies with women in them are beside a store. People are standing on the porch of the store & three men mounted on horses are in photo center. Left foreground is a road & center & right foreground is brush on sparesly vegetated ground. Numbers "1-6" are above buildings in blue ink: (Written on back in black ink: "Baggs, Wyoming business district 1896 Identification on buildings 1. Hotel & diining rooms of the W P Penland Hotel. Mr. Penland was the father of Glenn Penland one time Carbon County Sheriff 2. Ledford General Merchandise Store 3. Unidentified 4. Saloon 5. Kirk Calvert General Merchandise Store 6. Saloon & Restaurant. The man on horseback marked with the arrow is Walter Gooldy who clerked in the Ledford Store to earn money to go to college.
