8 X 10 of an oil rig, dated May, 1911. Update 2009: Black and white print mounted on grey matboard with patterned border in image of an oil derrick and out buildings in the midst of a scrub-covered prairie. Hills in background. Written on upper margin of image in pencil: "The well that started the oil business of Carbon County." Written on lower margin of image in pencil: "Larson Oil [well?] on Muddy." Written in lower mat margin in pencil: "over". Written on back in black ink is the story of how the well was built, including:"May 1911" "In there[sic] party were H.Larsen, L.C. Larsen, Mike Miller." "One of the first oil drilling rigs put up in Carbon County". "Lost Soldier Oil Field". Mounted on acidic matboard. Back soiled. Appears to have been wet at some point, ink shows slight bleeding. Mat front soiled. Image surface soiled and fingerprinted; scratched. Mat warped. Corner and edge damage.
