Snapshot of the Widdowfield marker at the old Carbon Cemetery.
Update 2008: A Kodacolor print, 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 of a tall whitish stone obelisk grave marker for Robert Widdowfield. Gravestone reads: Robert Widdowfield murdered near Elk Mountain August 19, 1878. Aged 33 years. This grave is located at the Carbon Wyoming Cemetery.
Written on back of photo: 'Picture taken by Mrs. Al Pierce Laramie, Wy. Widdowfield and Tip Vincent were shot by Big Nose George and his gang in 1878 when they tried to make their get away after trying to wreck a U.P. Train that carried the pay car. Given by Mrs. Al Pence, Laramie, Wy."
There is a tiny white label affixed to photo back covering printed information.
The grave marker is shows in photo surrounded by low lying sagebrush in front and other shrubs and trees to the back and right. Smaller headstones and wooden fence posts are to left and rear. A sparsely vegetated acreage shows in the far horizon.
Photo has gone to yellow because of dark fading. there are tiny scratches and indents in photo surface. A paperclip indent shows on top left. the emulsion surface is rough.Collection
