Description

Smelter at Encampment, copper molds at the Ferris Mine. Update - 2009: Black & white print showing the interior of a very large dirt floored room which houses two very large drum like smelting furnaces seen in background with sealed metal large box like structures to right of each drum. There are large funnel shaped metal bin units overhead which are supported at outside edges by tall corner pipes. There are narrow dual rail tracks running under & through these boilers through which small four wheeled ingot carts are transported for being filled with molten copper. There are turning tables in foreground that connect vertical boiler route tracks to a horizontal track seen in foreground. There are two workmen bent over & under the boiler on far right. Their image is blurry. On side left an ingot laden cart is seen in foreground. Other objects are visible on image some include: a crowbar & bucket in foreground; barrel & stump in center background, etc. Written in white at right corner: 65 from negative. Written on back in blue ink: copper Moulds (mold) each pig weighs 200 lbs Ferris Haggarty Mine ore Smelter at Encampment Wyo. Fair condition. There is a black developing line on side right from top to bottom edges. Print is soiled on all edges on top & lower surfaces. Corners are bent & worn. There is a large bend extending from top to bottom at off center area left which creates a long crease in emulsion. Slight tear in margin at lower right edge. Side edge have slight curl to them. There is 1 copy which is in good condition & is lighter in color than original. There is an irregular margin at top edge & tiny scratch at side right. 3 1/2 x 4 34/4"
