NOTE: Rankin Brother Livery Barn This, the second Rankin Livery Barn & Stable was built by Jim & Joe Rankin in the fall of 1881. It was located along the west side of the 100 block of Fifth Street, above the alley & to within 24 ft of Cedar Street. Over the next 18 years, in addition to having Rawlins Premier Livery, the Rankins at various times ran a Freight & several Stage Lines from this location. During the fall of 1894, Joe left Rawlins after selling his interest in the business to his brother Jim. In June 1899, Jim sold the business portion only, to the Rendle Brothers, Jim and Tom. That fall, on November 6, Rankin sold the Lots on which the business stood, to Dr. John Osborne. In April 1901, Osborne gave the Rendle brothers 30 days to remove their business, lock, stock and barrel from his property. During May the Livery was razed & the City Drug on the 24 ft & on the land above it, was move so the Doctor could build the two story Brick Osborne Building that now stands on the combined sites. Second 5 x 6 7/8" black & white copy print. Good condition. Back badly soiled. Paper slightly yellowed.
