Description

Matted and framed watercolor painting of the Sulphur Ranch, an old stage station on the Overland Trail. The painting was done in the fall of 1937 by Ann Bruning Brown, granddaughter of Ann and John Robertson. Shows a white house with red roof, several outbuildings and barns set in front of a small flat hill with dirt roads and brush. On the back written in black is information on the Sulphur Ranch. "An old stage station on the Overland Trail South of Rawlins Wyoming about 30 miles. John Robertson bought the ranch in 1900. The family lived there for 40 years. The H. H. Bruning family homesteaded Hay Gulch 7 miles north of Suphur and ranched until 1940 when combined ranches were sold to Sangers of Saratoga Wy. (Originally sold to Mr. and Mrs. Al Enberg and inherited by daughter Millie Sanger. The Overland Emigrant, Stage and mail route was used during the years 1862 until in 1869. The Union Pacific Railroad crossed Wyoimng, then for many more years by settlers coming to the new territory of Wyoming. It is now being given as a gift to Carbon Co. Museum in Rawlins, Wyo. 1991. Property of Mrs. Wilbur R. Brown, 8-21-2002." Located in Slot 3. Given T1322 during inventory 2010-2013.
