Description

Two photos of a train wreck dated 9-12-1923, Engine #5003, in Rawlins. Both show workers around tracks in a clean up area. Pictures are taped together. Black and White 3 1/2" x 5" each. Can see houses in background. Update 5/2010: Two black and white prints of a train wreck. Prints are taped together. Top print is a locomotive with rear section smashed. An overturned car is behind engine. Debris is scattered beside engine. Men are moving about, some near engine back and some in foreground. Some train wheels are detached and setting beside a vacant track. Houses are in background. Written on back in pencil: "Engine #5003" "9/12/1223". Condition good. Faded. Accretion, tape adhesive on left and right sides. Scratched. 2nd Print: Black and white print of train wreck. A large crane is lifting an overturned car. Debris is littered beside tracks. An engine is beyond overturned car and appears to be leaning. Men stand on both sides of the tracks looking toward lifting of car. Written on back in pencil: "9/12/1923 Engine #5003". Condition good. Faded. Accretion, torn right side, tape adhesive on sides, fingerprints. Size 3 1/2 x 5. Copy print view 1. 5 1/2 x 6 9/16" black & white. Snapshot. Image of the aftermath of a train wreck in the railyard. Large group of men in the foreground around a pile of debris. Large rail-mounted crane at center preparing to move an overturned box car. Houses & trees in background. Written in black marker on emulsion in upper left corner: "289" Good condition. Liquid damage along lower edges; pieces of emulsion missing. Yellowed along left edge. Copy print view 2. 5 9/16 x 6 1/2" black & white. Snapshot. Image of the aftermath of a train wreck in the railyard. Group of workmen in foreground removing chunks of debris. Overturned box car & two engines - smashed head-on in mid-ground. Lumberyard, houses & buildings in background. Written in black marker on emulsion in lower left corner "289". Good condition. Paper yellowed; darker on right edge on back. Emulsion scratched, crazed in upper right.
