Description

Photo of Adam Arnold, who ran the first hotel in Carbon and one copy. Update 2008: Black and white small oval print attached to ivory colored matboard 4 1/8 x 2 1/2 of a man dressed in dark suit, jacket, vest, white shirt and black bow tie. He has light colored eyes, dark close cropped curly hair with bushy sideburns, wide mustache, and wide bushy beard. Condition is fair. Mat and print are heavily soiled. Bottom right of print is lifted up from mat and bent. Emulsion is scratched and abraded over parts of entire surface. The oval print shows white edge from developing flaw. Black smudges top right. Back of card has reddish stamped: UPRR Photograph railroad car. Right side of car has printed on it: J.B. Silvis, photographer. Written in blue ink on back: Given by Doc. Culleton. Mr. Nd Mrs. Adams Arnold ran the first hotel in Carbon. Mr. Adam Arnold ran the hotel in the old-town of Carbon (now deserted). A copy: 5 x 6 3/4, black and white reprint with original condition anomalies showing on print. Print copy is unblemished except for soiling on edges and unknown stain on back right edge top to bottom. White tab on back has written in black ink: Mr. Adams Arnold ran the hotel in Carbon.
