Description

A black and white print mounted to a gray matboard which has been cut off even with the edges of the print. The image is of a group of railroad workers (Union Pacific in Rawlins) standing in two informal rows, dressed in work clothes of various types and with two men wearing dark suits. The men are standing in a room with unfinished wood walls seen in background. A large tool (vice?) is mounted on a tall, thick timber which is bolted to the floor at the front right of the image. Written on the back surface in blue ink: Grandpa Roberts Boss Man Foreman Row 1, #4 (The donor's grandfather Thomas Roberts is marked with an x on the front surface of image.) Fair condition with worn irregular edges which have several tears at various locations. Print is heavily soiled with dark smudges; heavily scuffed throughout surface, with scratches in emulsion. Back surface has unknown stains that appear as dark circles on mat.
