Description

Construction through Baggott Canyon for the Saratoga and Encampment Railroad. Update - 2009: Black & white print showing a railroad track over a river & extending into the distance. Slight hills are seen on either side at background. The underpinning of the track over the water appears to be constructed of square beams, some irregularly sized. Other lumber & timbers are strewn above on right river bank edge. A very tall open ladder & tripod shaped device is seen on a platform above the timbers & lumber (a hoisting unit?) Written on back in blue ink: S & E Baggott Canyon[sic] (note: should read Saratoga and Encampment Railroad Baggott Rocks Canyon) Stamped on back in black ink: Carbon County Museum, Box 52, Rawlins, WY 82301 Fair condition. Print has black developing lines on top & side right & a white blurry smudge line on side left from negative process. Image is soiled on all edge front & back surface with smudges. Emulsion has several small wrinkles/cracks at top & lower edges. There are small tears on side left & right edges. Corners are worn. There are three small white areas on lower side right which are from negative process. Back surface has multiple tiny strange stains & smudges. There is a small tear at side right top surface. There are two copies, both good condition. Both 3 1/2 x 4 3/4" Copies are lighter than original. Developing anomalies of black lines are present from original print on both copies. Copy 1 - Saratoga and Encampment Bagott[sic] Canyon written in black ink on back surface. Writing on back impacts top surface. No defects visible. copy 2 - has no writing on back & no defects.
