Description

Warm Springs Post Office in 1887. (Now Saratoga). The mail was delivered by a mule team which belonged to George Condict. Standing is W. B. Hugus, Postmaster, C. S. Miner, A. R. Couzens, George Folsom, Bob Edwards, Jim Cemmance. Update 1/2010: Black and white print. Snapshot. Image of a multi-room log structure with a group of men standing on the boardwalk in front of the main section. Loaded buggy with a two donkey hitch parked in dirt street in front. Tall peaked roof and building in background at left. Barrels next to building at right. Written on back in blue ink : "Warm Springs, Wyoming Post Office in 1887[.] Now called Saratoga Wyoming. The mail was brought by buckboard from Laramie to Walden Colorado by one carrier[c] then by Messrs Geo Condiet and Dr. W. L. Johnson to Saratoga in turn, in the picture on the other side of Mr. Condiet is ready to start[.] The buildings are property of Hugus and Chatterton. Mr. W. B. Hugus is Post Master[.] he is with the chin whiskers from left to right[.] the mule team belonged to Geo. Condiet." In black ink: "W. B. Hugus the man with the chin whiskers was the postmaster[.] others in pictures[sic] are C. S. Miner, A.R. Couzens, George Folsom, Bob Edwards, and Tim Cemmarce." In pencil on white adhesive label pasted to back: "Saratoga." Writing on back impacting emulsion throughout. Corner damage-corner bent and emulsion cracked. Emulsion cracked, circular area of emulsion damage at right center.
