Photo of M'liss Thomas who came to Carbon to teach school about 1895. M'liss Veitch named for M'liss Thomas, her second cousin. Update 3/2010: Black and white print. Studio portrait. Printed on postcard paper. Unused. 3/4 length portrait of a standing young woman in a dark coat, wide brimmed fur hat with white feathers, fur stole and fur muff . Painted backdrop behind. She has a small purse with a chain handle hanging on her left forearm and is wearing a horseshoe-shaped broach on her collar. Printed off-set to top-lower border. Printed on back in black ink: "Post Card" "Correspondence Here" "Name and Address Here" [square with triangles in corners and "AZO" as sides around] "Place Stamp Here." Written on back in blue ink: "M'liss Thomas who came to Elk Mountain [crossed out and replaced with] Carbon to teach school about 1895". "M'liss Veitch names for M'liss Thomas her second cousin". In pencil on a white adhesive label pasted to back: "Veitch." Paper yellowed. Back soiled. Corner and edge damage, lower left corner bent-emulsion cracked. Emulsion cracked along left side; soiled with fingerprints.
