Description

Froling Shoes, Rawlins, 1904. Update 2008: Black and white print. Snapshot. Mounted on tan matboard. Image of the workshop of a cobbler's shop. Three men working on various stages of shoe construction or repair. Left wall has two rows of hanging tools and shelves of boxes of parts and equipment; smaller shelves of shoe lasts. Back wall has more small shelves of shoe lasts, a potbellied stove, small chests and cupboard and an open doorway leading to a back room. At front is a long wood counter with glass display case on top at right. Two low benches with parts and boxes in line with counter at left. Back of chair at left side. Written on back in pencil: "1904 Froling Shoe Shop on 5th Str." "To: Carbon County Museum from V. Froling". Written on back in black ink: "Copied by State, mounted" "201". Written on back in blue ink: "1 of 7". Mounted on acidic matboard. Mat badly soiled, front and back. Hole (1/4 inch long) in image and mat at lower right. Edge and corner damage; liquid stains on upper mat edge on front, lower mat edge on back. Image surface soiled and scratched. Missing small chunk from image edge at center bottom. Update February 2011: Black & white copy print. Typed on adhesive tag on back: "Froling Shoe Shop on 5th Street, 1904" Stamped on back in black: "Copy Provided by the Wyoming State Archives and Historical Department". "201" Good condition. Creased, emulsion impacted, torn bottom edge, adhesive tape on back. Size 5 x 7"
