Mr. Smith standing in front of his Bakery on Front Street, Rawlins. Taken about 1887-1890. Lot 17, Block 23, 400 Block of North Front. Nov., 1883 building was moved from South Side. Mr. Smith ran the first bakery in Rawlins. He would meet the immigrant trains of early days and sell very large donuts to those on the trains. Two copies.
Update 2009: Black and white print of man on boardwalk standing in front of a clapboard building. Sign on top of building reads: Wm J. Smith Bakery". Another sign on front of building in larger letters reads: "Bakery". Painted on window on right: "Cigars, Candies". There is a wood box on boardwalk and written on it: "Burr Oak". Sign on building to photo right reads: "Beer". There are more people on walk on photo right . Written on back in blue ink: "W. J. Smith in Front of his bakery on Front Street. Mr. Smith came to Rawlins shortly after the railroad came through and opened the first bakery which he ran for many years. He would meet the immigrant trains of early day, and sell very large donuts to those on the trains." Written on back in blue ink: "Photograph taken about 1887-1890. Lot 17. Block 23. 400 block of North Front. Dk. RB." Written in red pencil: "Copied by State". Black ink: "And Mounted." Written in pencil: "11/1883 Building moved form South Side." Written in red: "Page 29, pix 1 44% 2 5/8 x 3 1/2".
Condition good. Has been cut down, scratched, creased, emulsion impacted.
