Black and white photograph. A man dressed in a prisoner uniform is being held in place by two men - one is out of frame while the other is slightly visible with his face scratched out. Behind the three are two men wearing military uniforms with their backs to the camera. Written in ink on the back is "ACKERMANN, JAN J." Additional research - Jan Akkermann was executed on October 15, 1948 for his role in the Borkum Island massacre of seven unarmed American airmen. Akkerman was the mayor of Borkum Island, when a U.S. aircrew survived a crash landing on the island Akkerman lead and encouraged the citizens of the town to assault the airmen as they were led through the town by the military stationed on the island, one airman died during the march while the other six were executed shortly afterwards.
