2007.990.2.1Description
A black and white scanned copy of a large group of men, ca. 1896, dressed in suits, ties, and all wearing hats of various styles, with a few men with long overcoats over their suits standing and sitting (front row center) in the entryway of a two door building. Door on photo left is shut and door on photo right is open to inside of building . A two toned dog (white on upper torso and dark on rear half) is lying on a wooden side walk in front of the group of men. The dog's head is in an upright position with it forelegs stretched out in front. Glass windows are on side left with tropical looking plants seen behind the glass. Side right has matching glass windows with cafe curtains (multi-toned striped) seen hanging on a small curtain rod across the interior window. There is a wooden feature on the photo left side which slants upward from the wooden sidewalk (storm cellar doors?) to the lower edge of the building. Many of the men have upper lip mustaches and several are smoking. Man in first row, side right has a newspaper in his outside jacket pocket. This group photo had been believed to contain Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid, and the Wild Bunch, but is now subject to much question and may be nothing more than the Elks Club members. Note: Jack Stroud who has studied and compared other photos believes this to be Elks Club Members, see photo 2008.848.8.1. Measure 8" x 10." Copy is in fair condition with unknown stains on surface, soiling on top and back of photo, blemishes from processing? worn edges, and slight crinkling at top and sides. This photograph is identified with different names on 2008.848.8.1.Collection
