Description

Bishop Ethelbert Talbot, first missionary bishop of Wyoming and Idaho, taken about 1887. Update 2009: Black and white studio portrait print affixed to black matboard which has "Rockwood ORG" in the center, "17 Union Square, N.Y." engraved in gold on lower edge of card. Print shows a clergyman wearing his vestries including a long white robe with large puffy sleeves with dark wristband above ruffled cuff. Robe has pleats emanating from collar and extending down front bodice. A stiff white collar is seen at neck. A dark stole is draped around his neck and hangs down the front of his robe. His hands are clasped together in front and his left hand has a dark ring on his right finger. He has thick, wavy hair brushed back from face. Two white labels are affixed on back of mat. Top label is written in blue ink: "Laura Huntington Heath Collection. Bishop Ethelbert Talbot. First Missionary Bishop of Wyo taken about 1887, Wyo & Idaho." Mat has gilt around all outer edges. Smaller label: "Epis Church". Written in ink on back: Copied by State." Good condition. Has large scuff marks throughout center of surface. Mottled marks at various locations over entire surface, unknown residue spots side left and right. Multiple scratches in emulsion. Update July 2011: Black & white copy print. Written on back in blue ink: "Bishop Ethelbert Talbot, First Missionary Bishop of Wyo. and Idaho taken about 1887" Printed in black: "Copy Provided by the Wyoming State Archives and Historical Department" Good condition. Wrinkled. Size 5 x 7"
