Description

First boys choir in Wyoming organized by Rev. Huntington for ages 6-18 years. Prentice Landenberger, Carrol Landenberger, Will Edwards, Robert Dyer, Frederic Huntington, Oliver Galbraith, Rev. Huntington, Albert Genter, W. W. Daley, Fred Hurt, Theodore Genter, Arthur Huntington. Update 2009: Black and white print attached to black mat which has a gilt tiny scalloped edge on all sides. Print shows three rows of choir boys and a priest all dressed in choir robes and the priest wearing his robes and dark stole draped around his neck. Background shows large black curtains hanging from ceiling, a door and wallpapered wall are partially seen back on side left and draped in back. The five boys in the back row are standing. Three boys with the priest in the middle of them are kneeling and the three boys in the front row are sitting on the patterned carpet each with their hands clasped in their laps. Print has blue ink written names on the boys and priest. Mr. Huntington has long craggily gray beard and mustache. Back Row: L to R: Landenberger, Prentice. Landenberger, Carroll. Edwards, Will. "The mother of the two boys gave the old stone font in the old Episcopal Church." Written on front lower edge of print in blue ink: 1887 Boys Choir of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. First in Wyoming. A white paper is affixed to mat back and written in blue ink: Age from 6-18 years. First boys chior[sic] in Wyoming organized by Rev. Huntingon. Prentice Landenberger, Carrol Landenberger, Will Edwards, Robert Dyer, Frederic Huntington, Oliver Galbraith, Rev. Huntington, Albert Genter, W. W. Daley, Fred Hunt, Theodore Genter, Arthur Huntington." "Copied by State" written in red pencil. "Mounted" written in blue ink. Condition fair. Mat bottom is blistered and mat is extremely worn with abraded edges and corners with eroded mat on all corners. Surface is scratched, mottled and heavily soiled with accretions, stains and wear. Each person is written on with blue ink and a notation is written on print at bottom edge. There is a large scratch in emulsion on side right. Ink on print front is fading and wearing off. Back of mat has unknown white stains and abraded top layer around edges and corners. One 3 1/2 x 5" copy. The copy has been reversed and the negative line and number 10812 is seen at top edge. Names written on boys are backwards. Good condition with all the imperfections of the original seen on this copy. Written on back are the boys names listed above in black ink with the addition of "page 16, #21". Update July 2011: Black & white copy print.
