Description

A buffalo skin bag, called a teepee bag. Donor states it is a reproduction. Bag has a folded over flap to close. This flap has primarily white bead work along the outer edges with 3 small beaded tepees up from the beaded border in aqua and yellow. White latigo strings hand from the corners and at the center front of flap. The Native American owner would have used the bag to carry her precious things inside the bag from place to place. It could have also been used for a pillow. Inside the bag there are 2 ochre rocks, one yellow and one red. The Indians would grind the ochre and mix with animal fat for their face paint. Donor purchased this bag from Mr. Vogel in Laramie. Posits that it could be Crow in origin. 15" x 8 1/2". Located on touch table shelf 2. Some are in the storage unit with the education collection. Update 2014: Will be on display in Carbon County Library from March 2014-April 2014 (returned April 11, 2014). Update 2017: The yellow and red ocre rocks were removed from bag and placed in Storage Wall Unit 1F, Shelf 2.
