Black & white print on dark grey mat. Image of tracks leading down into a hole with sloped, caved off sides. A rail car tied with a rope is lowered into the hole on the tracks. Men are in & around the hole. Two building structures are on photo left. Large piles of round timbers surround the hole & are in the distance. A large pole in photo center has curved metal top with light fixture attached.
Written on back in black: "Hanna mine the day after the explosion June 30 - 1903 taken by Hon. Samuel Dickenson"
Written in pencil on yellow post it note on back: "Picture on reserve workers at the portal. U. P. Coal Co. Mine at Hanna , WY. Taken July 1, 1903 by Sam Dickenson. At this time there was still hope of rescue for over 200 men & boys trapped in the mine - which blew up just before 10:30 AM June 3, 1903".
In black ink:: "Rans" surrounded by a circle.
Fair condition. Torn & paper missing, scratched, grooves, coming off mat, corners broken off, rubbed, soiled.Collection
