Description

CTC (Centralized Traffic Control) board used by UPRR in Cheyenne to regulate train traffice West end of Rawlins through Riner, WY. Mile post 685 thru 702. A gray metal box type structure 4 1/2 feet tall, 1 foot wide; 18 inches long, including a smaller box on top 9 x 7 x 4. This smaller box has 6 push buttons. Writing includes: "Riner (with arrow) 6 line to Laramie (arrow) cheyenne. Code lane auto dial up unit. " Front of main box top is a black coated panel "Riner, Wyo." printed on top. Red tape with numbers: CP 702; CP 700; CP 685; 1 BJP; 2 BJP. Several white, green, and red lights. Two dials. Lines indicating travel of trains, two tracks with one side line to park train while another train passes. Under dials MP 711.0 and MP 699.6 on left and right. Next section has 4 rows of dials; switches; signals and lights. On the back there are wing nuts to remove two panels. Art Crawford, the donor worked from 1983 until 1989 in Cheyenne using this panel, console board to direct traffic. He noted Rawlins was a crew change station as well as a fuel station. It had its own fuel line from Sinclair for fueling the trains. This control console was removed from the Cheyenne dispatch office when the office closed and all dispatching was computerized and located in Omaha, NE.
