Description

Taken in 1916 north or Rawlins. Freighting an oil rig to oil field. Ted Hughes and Jeff Blevins, Petrie. Update 2008: Black and white print. Image of a 12 horse freight wagon on diet road with town buildings in background. Nine white horses and three black ones are hauling a large piece of equipment with a wagon behind. Five men or boys riding on the equipment with a sixth man on the back at a steering wheel? There is a man on the near horse of the 3rd pair. He has been identified in pencil on the emulsion surface as "Ted Hughes". There is another man on the rear horse of the 12th pair and he has been identified in pencil on emulsion at "Jeff Stevens". Man at back of the equipment at wheel has been identified on the emulsion surface as "Petrie". Brush covered prairie in foreground; fence at center left side. Embossed in lower right corner: H.J. Rogner Photo. Written on back in pencil: Taken in 1916, Freighting an oil rig north [crossed out] to the oil fields North of Rawlins. Loaned to museum by Mrs. Bernie Stevens Wheeler." "Page 91, pix 2, 77%, 1 1/2 x 7 1/4" "5257" Adhesive label on back: "Oil Fields". Badly yellowed. Grey paper and adhesive around edges on back; adhesive tape residue along lower edge. Stained throughout . Emulsion surface badly soiled and stained. Cracked vertically at top and bottom edges; semicircular cracks in emulsion at center and left center. Surface scratched. Adhesive on back impacting emulsion surface. Lower left corner and edge bent and cracked; damage to other corners. Wrinkled. Update July 2011: Black & white copy print. Written in black ink on back: "Taken in 1916.
