Description

Foot-warmer made of metal frame with holes punched in the sides. The frame is then wrapped in carpet and hot coals, wood or stone are inserted to create the heat. Women and children most frequently used foot-warmers because they could be placed under long blankets and skirts to keep the heat in. Foot-warmers were essential to travel in open carriages, trains, early transportation, and public meeting places such as churches without heating.
